Choreographies and performative creations

„5,6,7,and”

creators: Victoria Herczek, Oscar Mafa

year: 2016-till today

The piece is a search on what happens when the rhythm exceeds the boundaries of a single bar and how it will relate to the metre? The rhythm becomes omnipresent, it moves, shapes the space and marks its existence in every possible way influencing the audience's senses in most ways possible. The piece became very important to us and it transformed into a never-ending field of research on movement and performative aspect of it. We allow ourselves to discover all the time something new that allows the piece to be all the time alive and fresh. It redifined my thinking on composition that has to go to something set and closed a while after a premiere. A goal was to work with quite restricted and limited material to be able to profoundly examine and analyse every possibility we come up with.

in/visible

The project was created as an accompanying event for the photo exhibiotion of Gaspard Felix Tournachon – Nadar „Personalities” (the set of exhibitions „The Light of the Times”-masters of photography in Galerii Negatyw in Katowice, Poland). It is an attempt of performative interpretation of French artist works. Photography as a light record of the moment gives a very special and interesting opportunity to transformation in the performative form. Both the process of creation of the picture and photoprocessing is straddling between two opposites: positive/negative, brightness/darkness, existence/non existence. Impact of photography and movement - the arts being on the contrary with the way of expression, became an inspiration for creating a performance where light is an impulse for moving body. The light as a Big Mover that changes a body into alive, grotesque and distorted object being transformed in front of our eyes. The play with visible and in/visible begins.

Postmodern Postoffice

concept and creation:
Victoria Herczek&Magorzata Czyzowska

A stop-motion postmodern postoffice is a short image on a body captured in a flat space. Two dimensional body and exploration of it in relation to moving objects. What does it make to body? How does it behave in such conditions?

Body Building

Video was created as part of the Alina Belyagina's residency program Urban Dance in Baltic Gallery of Contemporary Art in Ustka, Poland. The aim was to move buildings and by organizing different artistic events around the city give a new life to old and unused spaces. Ustka as a town located by the sea has two strong economics fields consisting of fish industry and tourism. Nowadays locals mostly pay attention to tourism somehow forgetting about the industry. That results in a lot of empty postindustrial buildings. That might be dangerous if the spaces will be left without any care. We started to think how to use the potential of this huge postindustrial area. As we both lived in Katowice a huge postindustrial city where we can observe what possibilities those buildings have. Big part of them was transformed into cultural institution and give unique opportunities to take on a spectrum of activities. That lead to creating a lot of different events around the area of Ustka.
